असंलग्न राष्ट्रका राष्ट्राध्यक्ष तथा सरकार प्रमुखको ६५औँ वार्षिकोत्सवमा नेपालको सम्बोधन

**Kathmandu, September 2 2026 (Belgrade, Serbia)** – Nepal marked the 65th anniversary of the inaugural conference of the Non‑Aligned Movement (NAM) with a formal address delivered by Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Krishna Prasad Dhakal. The commemorative ceremony was held in Belgrade, Serbia, and was attended by heads of state and government, foreign ministers and senior diplomatic representatives of NAM member countries.

In his remarks, Dhakal highlighted the “growing complexity and multidimensional crises” confronting the international community. He warned that escalating conflicts, heightened tensions, and increasing polarization threaten global stability. According to Dhakal, these challenges underscore the need to “revitalize and renew” the NAM, positioning it as a “significant platform” for addressing issues such as arms proliferation, economic inequality and the digital divide.

Dhakal called on NAM member states to act in concert with the movement’s founding principles, urging stronger multilateral cooperation and a more robust framework of international legal governance. He emphasized that collective action under the NAM banner could help mitigate the aforementioned global threats.

The summit also featured discussions on the history of the NAM and its contemporary role in world governance. Participants exchanged views on how the movement can adapt to current geopolitical dynamics while preserving its core ideals of independence, sovereignty, and non‑interference.

During the event, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Jurić expressed condolences for the severe flooding that recently affected Nepal, conveying “deep sympathy” on behalf of the Serbian government and its people.

In parallel diplomatic engagements, Deputy Secretary General Dhakal met with several foreign officials:

* **Angola** – Minister of External Relations Tete Antonio, with whom he discussed bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
* **United Arab Emirates** – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs I. Walid A.M. Alkhereji, focusing on collaborative initiatives across various sectors.
* **Serbia** – International Affairs Advisor to the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management, Andrej Sivanović, to explore ways to strengthen Nepal‑Serbia cooperation in agriculture and forestry.
