In Fulbaria Upazila of Mymensingh district, a woman has filed a criminal complaint against a local Union Youth League leader for allegedly attempting to rape her after promising to secure the release of her husband from jail. The woman, 45, lodged the complaint at Fulbaria Police Station on Thursday night, around 12:30 a.m. She said that the accused, Alh. Ali Mondol, 38, who serves as the organizational secretary of the Putijana Union Youth League, had repeatedly visited her home under the pretext of arranging the release of her husband, who had been arrested on 14 September and was then in custody. Mondol allegedly promised to free the husband and, according to the complainant, tried to coerce her into a sexual act on 20 October at about 11 a.m. She claims that when she refused, he attempted to rape her and forced her into her bedroom, where he allegedly held her down and placed her on the bed. The woman says she had been recording the incident on her mobile phone for her own safety and to have evidence in case of any wrongdoing. The video was later circulated on Facebook, prompting the police to investigate. The police officer in charge of the case, Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rashedul Hasan, confirmed that the video clearly shows an attempt at sexual assault and that a case has been registered. The accused is currently at large, and police are attempting to locate him. Attempts to contact him by phone were unsuccessful as his phone was turned off. Alh. Ali Mondol is also a candidate for the chairmanship of the Union Council. The president of the Fulbaria Union Youth League, Kamrul Zamman Mir Azad, said that the matter would be discussed with district and central leaders and that organizational action would be taken against the accused. The complainant also alleges that her husband was falsely implicated in a case and that he was released on bail after legal intervention on Monday. She demands a thorough investigation and says she has been threatened by the accused.
