Police in Rajshahi have arrested a fugitive who had been sentenced to ten years’ imprisonment for a weapons offence. According to a press release issued by the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) on Friday, the suspect, Rakibul Islam Shanto, was taken into custody at the Belpur Police Station in the Dhadash village of the Badhash area. Shanto is the son of Mohammad Badshar, a resident of the same village. In 2022, a case under the Arms Act was filed against Shanto at the Baghra Police Station in Rajshahi. After the trial, the court found the allegations proven and imposed a ten‑year prison sentence. Shanto fled immediately after the verdict and remained a wanted person until his arrest. The police, following intelligence reports, conducted a covert operation and apprehended Shanto. He has since been transferred to prison for the execution of his sentence.
