A Bangladesh Air Force VIP flight bound for Dhaka from Narita International Airport in Tokyo was delayed after a mechanical fault was detected on the aircraft’s spoiler. The incident involved a Boeing 787‑8 operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, carrying Prime Minister Tajuddin Rahman and his delegation. After passengers boarded, the aircraft was pushed back from the terminal and began taxiing toward the runway. While on the taxiway, the cockpit displayed a warning related to the spoiler system. For safety reasons, the pilot cancelled the take‑off and the aircraft was returned to a designated parking area. Engineers immediately began a technical inspection and repair. According to Biman’s public relations director, Shahnur Ahmed, “Engineers are working on the repair.” He added that the flight, designated B787‑377, is delayed while the technical team, led by engineer Sadekul Islam Bhuiya and engineer Mannan, assesses the fault. Initial estimates suggest that repairing the spoiler and completing the required checks could take two to three hours, but the final departure time will depend on the progress of the repairs and subsequent testing. The spoiler on a Boeing 787 plays a critical role in controlling lift and drag during various phases of flight, including take‑off, landing, and speed management. A malfunction can compromise the aircraft’s safe operation, necessitating thorough inspection and repair before the aircraft can resume flight. Biman Bangladesh Airlines has stated that it will provide further updates as the situation develops.
