Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned Iranian Ambassador Mohammad Totounchi to the emirate to deliver a protest note over what it calls interference in the country’s internal affairs. The deputy foreign minister, Hamed Suleiman al‑Masha, said the note would be handed to the ambassador on 28 October in connection with a statement issued by the Iranian Embassy in Kuwait. The ministry described the Iranian statement as “harsh interference in the internal affairs of the State of Kuwait, an affront to its sovereignty and judicial independence, and a blatant violation of international law and its principles.” The protest note is intended to address the embassy’s remarks. Earlier, the Iranian Embassy in Kuwait had criticized a decision by the Kuwaiti criminal court that sentenced three individuals—including an Iranian citizen—to death. The court found them guilty of treason and conspiracy to prepare a coup against high‑ranking officials, including the interior minister. The embassy condemned the ruling as unjust and a violation of human rights.
