التقدم والاشتراكية يتطلع إلى طي نهائي لنزاع الصحراء ويجدد دعمه لحكومة المنصوري وبرنامجها الاجتماعي

The Progressive and Socialist Party (حزب التقدم والاشتراكية) issued a statement on Thursday, 28 October 2026, following its political bureau meeting. In the statement the party expressed its view that the forthcoming United Nations Security Council decision on the status of Western Sahara, scheduled for 31 October 2026, would represent a new step toward a final settlement based on an autonomy framework within Moroccan sovereignty. The party said it had reviewed developments in the Western Sahara issue in the evening before the anticipated UN resolution and noted that the decision would coincide with the national Unity Day, also on 31 October. It described the holiday as a symbol of territorial and national unity and argued that the timing of the resolution would reinforce that symbolism. According to the party’s statement, Morocco has made “significant diplomatic and developmental gains” in the southern regions under the leadership of King Mohammed VI. The party highlighted the role of various civil society groups in supporting these achievements. It also warned that the challenges associated with the Western Sahara file require continued strengthening of the internal front, not only politically but also through democratic consolidation and socio‑economic progress. The Progressive and Socialist Party linked the upcoming UN decision to Decision 2797, issued in 2025, which it called a “historical and decisive” resolution. The party viewed the new decision as a further step in the path toward a final settlement of the dispute, again grounded in the autonomy initiative within Moroccan sovereignty. In addition to its stance on the Western Sahara issue, the party reaffirmed its support for the new government program. The program had been approved by the House of Representatives after a vote of confidence in the government. The party said that its support would remain contingent on the government’s ability to translate its commitments into concrete actions. It also emphasized its ongoing role in framing, advocating, proposing, and highlighting potential discrepancies. The party expressed optimism that the renewed political dynamics would foster responsible political debate, freedom, and pluralism, and that these developments could help reconcile Moroccan citizens—particularly young people—with public affairs and political work. It stressed that maintaining the positive impact of governmental initiatives on public opinion requires a gradual shift from promises to tangible achievements that directly affect citizens’ living and social conditions. During the same meeting, the political bureau discussed the 2027 Budget Law, which it described as “promising and ambitious” because of its social, fiscal, and tax orientations. The party acknowledged that not all of the government program’s commitments could be implemented through the first budget law but argued that, if properly activated, the law could bring about a change in direction and open new opportunities for Moroccans. It called on all parliamentary components to engage with the budget law to ensure its effective implementation after approval.
