**Government Advises Pilgrims and Tourists in Gosainkunda to Use Alternative Route for Safe Return to Kathmandu**

Kathmandu, 27 August 2026 – The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an advisory urging pilgrims and tourists currently stranded in the Gosainkunda area to travel back to Kathmandu via a designated alternative route. The recommendation follows a recent natural disaster that rendered the traditional footpath toward Dhunche hazardous and partially damaged.

According to the advisory, the regular trail leading eastward from Gosainkunda toward Dhunche “poses significant risks” due to landslides and other disaster‑related impacts. As a safer option, authorities have highlighted the “Samundratar route,” which passes through Surya Kund and proceeds to High Camp before continuing toward the capital.

The ministry’s statement emphasizes that the alternative corridor is currently open and monitored, and it urges all stranded visitors to follow the suggested path to ensure a secure journey back to Kathmandu. Travelers are advised to remain in contact with local authorities and to heed any further safety instructions issued on the ground.
