Japan has urged the United States to withdraw sanctions imposed on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and has pledged to take “all necessary measures” to safeguard the court’s independence, a report by the Japanese news outlet @jijicom said on 17 October 2026. The request comes amid concerns that the sanctions are contributing to a funding shortfall for Ukraine.
