Bank Muscat, the leading financial institution in Oman, announced the launch of an instant digital credit card service through its mobile banking application. The service marks the first time in the Sultanate that customers can obtain a credit card digitally and have it activated immediately.
Customers can apply for a digital credit card directly from their smartphones without visiting a branch. The process involves logging into the Bank Muscat mobile app, selecting the credit card request section, choosing a suitable digital card from the bank’s range, and completing the application digitally. Upon approval, the card is issued instantly, and users can view the card’s CVV and expiry date within the app. The card can also be added to Apple Pay and Samsung Pay for quick online and in‑store payments.
Abdullah bin Hamoud Al‑Jafili, Assistant Managing Director of Electronic Banking Services at Bank Muscat, said, “This step extends our journey to provide seamless and instant services. We are pleased to add instant digital credit cards to our suite of digital offerings. While debit cards have gained significant traction in Oman, we have observed a growing demand for credit cards over the past two years. Our goal is to provide a convenient, independent banking experience for our customers.”
The digital credit card carries the same fees as traditional credit cards. Customers can enable or disable international usage at any time through the app. The service incorporates advanced authentication mechanisms and a one‑time password for online transactions to ensure security.
