A large tree fell onto a motorcycle rider on Chandpur‑Kansara Road in Kendrapara district, Odisha, on 18 September 2026. The incident occurred while the rider was traveling on the road.
The rider, identified as Bichitra Pradhan of Bapura village, was severely injured when the tree collapsed on his motorcycle. He was immediately removed from under the fallen tree by bystanders and taken to a nearby hospital in Cuttack for treatment.
Police reports indicate that the rider’s condition is serious. He is currently receiving medical care at the Cuttack hospital.
In a separate development, Arun Kumar Biswal, an additional secretary in the Odisha Transport and Commerce Department, was arrested on Friday on allegations of sexual harassment and attempted murder. A female employee filed a written complaint at Kharawe Nagar police station, leading to Biswal’s arrest.
According to police statements, Biswal allegedly arrived at the complainant’s residence on Thursday night, where he reportedly caused a disturbance, used abusive language, and allegedly assaulted the woman. He was taken into custody by a PCR van, booked under sections covering attempted murder and assault, and subsequently presented to court.
Both incidents have been reported to the relevant authorities for further investigation.
