At the Nagoya Asian Games in Aichi Prefecture on September 21, 2026, karate athlete Jung Seri, a fourth-generation Zainichi Korean from Oyama, Tochigi Prefecture, competed as a representative for North Korea. The 24-year-old participated in the women’s 61-kilogram kumite division.
In the quarterfinals, Jung faced South Korean athlete Ahn Jeong-eun, 21, in what was described as the first North-South match of the tournament. Following a closely contested bout, Jung was defeated. After the match, she expressed her disappointment, stating that she felt regret for losing just short of her goal, though she noted that she had given her best effort.
Jung began practicing karate at the age of three. After graduating from Korea University in Tokyo, she balanced her training with a sales position at a Japanese company. Reflecting on the match, Jung noted that her impatience in the final moments of the bout led to conceding points. Her opponent, Ahn, remarked that the match was difficult because their fighting styles were similar.
