A newly restored alleyway at the Jewish Cemetery in Plovdiv, located at 73 Knyaginya Maria Luiza Blvd., was officially opened during a ceremony attended by members of the public, business leaders, and representatives of the Jewish community.

The renovation project, which included improvements to the area and the installation of a cast-iron commemorative plaque created by sculptor Ivan Totev, was funded by a donation from Plovdiv physicians Associate Professor Narcis Kaleva-Hodzheva and Dr. Gyuray Hodzhev.

The event was hosted by Mois Kapon, a student at the National High School for Stage and Screen Arts in Plovdiv. Speakers included Kristiyan Angelov, chairman of the Shalom Organization in Plovdiv, who expressed gratitude to the donors for their contribution to preserving the memory of the city’s Jewish community.

Former President of Bulgaria Petar Stoyanov (1997–2002) also addressed the attendees, highlighting the importance of charitable traditions and the values that unite society. The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the new plaque by Angelov and the Hodzhev family.

The Hodzhev family has a history of philanthropic activity in Plovdiv, including support for the Shalom Organization, the Negev organization of friends of Israel in Bulgaria, and various healthcare and cultural initiatives. Their past contributions have supported the Medical University of Plovdiv, St. George University Hospital, and pediatric oncology services, as well as scholarships for talented youth through the Nota Bene society.

Other notable guests at the event included Professor Alexander Oscar, chairman of the Negev organization; Plovdiv Deputy Mayor for Culture, Archaeology and Tourism Plamen Panov; Solomon and Gergana Passy; Daniel Lorer; and various public figures and intellectuals.
