Petko Atanaschikov, a police officer previously known for his appearance in widely circulated footage during public protests, has died by suicide at his home in Sofia. Atanaschikov served in the Security Police department of the Sofia Directorate of Interior (SDVR).
The officer gained public attention during past demonstrations after being filmed sticking his tongue out at protesters. Unofficial reports regarding the circumstances of his death emerged late on September 10, 2026.
