Amazon announced on Friday that customers in the United States will soon be able to use its Alexa Shopping assistant to browse and purchase products via text messages. The new feature will allow users to search for items, compare prices, track deals and price drops, and have Alexa complete purchases on their behalf. Amazon said the service will first be offered to a small group of invited U.S. customers before a broader rollout in the coming weeks, according to Reuters. The launch follows Amazon’s recent decision to block Meta’s AI‑powered shopping assistant, MiuZ, from accessing its online store. Amazon claimed that MiuZ was accessing the site without permission and storing customer credentials. In March, Amazon obtained a court order to block the use of “Commit,” a shopping assistant from Perplexity, although an American appellate court lifted that ban in August. The case remains pending.
