Food Management and Trade Company Limited Begins Paddy Purchases in Kanchanpur Kanchanpur, 21 Kati 2024 – The Mahendranagar branch of Food Management and Trade Company Limited (FMTC) has started buying paddy in Kanchanpur district. On Thursday and Friday, a large number of farmers gathered at the branch office to sell their harvest, but many reported that the company only began the purchase process after the farmers had stored their paddy for about a month and a half. According to Prakash Nyaupane, the head of the Mahendranagar office, the delay was caused by a late arrival of the quota‑determination letter from the central office. “The process was prolonged because the letter from the central office arrived late,” Nyaupane said. FMTC has set a target of purchasing up to 8,000 quintals of paddy from the district this year, with a maximum purchase of 30 quintals per farmer. The company had bought 7,000 quintals of paddy in the previous year. Several farmers expressed disappointment that they could not obtain a token due to the limited quota. “I waited in line from the morning, but I did not receive a token and had to return home,” said Ramdatt Bhatt of Bhimdad Municipality. He added that the government should increase the purchase results to support farmers. Farmers also complained that, because the government does not allocate sufficient budget for purchasing their produce, they are unable to benefit from the official support price.
