Bangladesh’s opening batsman Sadman Islam suffered an ankle injury early in the first day of the Mirpur Test, forcing him off the field on a stretcher. According to a statement from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) physiotherapist Bayezidul Islam, Sadman twisted his left ankle. “Sadman’s left ankle is sprained. He is currently under observation and will be sent for an MRI scan,” Bayezidul said in an audio message. He added that a full assessment would determine the extent of the injury. Sadman, who had scored a century in the first innings of the match, was attempting to stop a ball that had flicked onto the leg side. He ran to the boundary to deflect the delivery, but while trying to stop the ball he twisted his ankle and collapsed on the pitch. Medical staff provided first aid on the field before Sadman was taken off the ground on a stretcher. The injury occurred during the 78th over of the match, bowled by Mehedi Hasan Miraj. The incident has raised concerns for Bangladesh, as Sadman’s presence at the top of the order is considered vital for the team’s batting strength.
