**Cape Verde Municipal Leaders Attend Governance Seminar in Beijing**
*Praia, Cape Verde – September 1, 2026* – A delegation of Cape Verdean municipal officials is taking part in a two‑week seminar on municipal governance in Beijing, China. The event is organized by the National Association of Municipalities of Cape Verde (ANMCV) in partnership with the Chinese government.
The Cape Verdean delegation, led by ANMCV President Fábio Vieira, includes representatives from the National Civil Protection Service and the University of Cape Verde. According to a statement cited by Rádio de Cabo Verde (RCV), Vieira said the mission is part of ANMCV’s broader strategy to train and qualify local officials so they can better meet the expectations of their communities.
The seminar aims to expose Cape Verdean officials to Chinese models of municipal governance and the technological solutions used in the modernization of China’s public administration. Topics on the agenda include smart‑city technologies and strategies for municipal adaptation to climate‑change impacts. Vieira emphasized that the purpose is “to share and try to leverage innovative models” and to identify practices that could be adapted to Cape Verde’s context.
The visit coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Cape Verde and China. The Cape Verdean government has described China as a strategic and trusted partner, with bilateral cooperation spanning multiple sectors.
The delegation will remain in Beijing for the duration of the seminar, after which participants are expected to report on findings and potential applications for municipal development in Cape Verde.
