Authorities have apprehended a man believed to be connected to a plot targeting two defence attorneys involved in a high-profile case. The suspect, identified as the right-hand operative of a detainee held at the Defence Force base in Chaguaramas, was captured with a sophisticated firearm shortly after the attorneys received warnings about threats to their lives. Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro confirmed that the suspect was assigned to eliminate the lawyers representing the detainees, including Rajaae Ali and Earl Richards, who have both denied any role in the threats against public officials. The detainees, currently held at Teteron Barracks, have expressed fears for their own safety and claimed they are victims of a setup, even offering to take lie detector tests to prove their innocence. This incident follows the transfer of the detainees from the Maximum Security Prison to military facilities ahead of a declared State of Emergency on July 18. Commissioner Guevarro stated that the threat linked to the State of Emergency has been largely neutralized, with multiple arrests made and investigations ongoing into the organized crime networks involved.
