ASJ Says Second Electoral Round Has No Political Support in Honduras

The Association for a More Just Society (ASJ) has declared that a second electoral round in Honduras will not receive political backing, as major parties show little interest in pursuing the measure. Juan Carlos Aguilar, ASJ’s Transparency Director, stated that the current political climate does not support the implementation of a runoff election. Instead, the organization urges lawmakers to focus on deeper structural reforms to the electoral system that would yield substantial improvements. Aguilar emphasized that reform efforts should prioritize changes that generate long-lasting impact over mechanisms like the second round. The remarks come amid ongoing debates over electoral reform in Honduras, where the political landscape remains fragmented.
