Ignacio Buse secured the first point for Peru in the Davis Cup World Group I series against Paraguay on Friday, September 18, 2026. Playing at the Jockey Club del Perú, Buse defeated Hernando Escurra in a three-set match to give his team a 1-0 lead.
Buse claimed the opening set 7-6 (7-4) after a competitive tie-break. Escurra responded in the second set, winning 6-4 to force a decider. In the final set, Buse overcame a 3-1 deficit. During the closing stages of the match, with the score at 6-5 in favor of the Peruvian, Escurra required medical attention for an injury to his left thigh. Despite the physical discomfort, Escurra continued play, but Buse ultimately closed the set 7-5 to win the match.
The series continues with further singles and doubles matches as Peru seeks to secure a spot in the next stage of the competition. The event is being broadcast via DSports and DGO.
