Two men from Arima, Renaldo Thomas and Bradley Taitt, have been charged with the murder of Azard Pooran, a 69‑year‑old local businessman. The suspects face additional accusations of possession of a firearm and ammunition.
The pair appeared before Master Raydon Dalrymple‑Watts in the High Court Criminal Division on Wednesday, 23 September 2026. They were formally charged with murder and the related firearm offenses during the court session.
Pooran was shot and killed at his home in Santa Rosa Heights, Arima, on 2 March 2026. The incident has shocked the community, where Pooran was known for his active business presence.
Arrests were carried out at the suspects’ residences on 15 and 17 September 2026 by officers of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) Region Two. The investigation was overseen by ASP (Ag.) Victor, W/Insp. Sylvester, Sgt. Radhaykissoon, Sgt. Gordon and Legal Officer PC Subiah.
Charges were filed on 22 September 2026 by PC Jaghoo after receiving advice from Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Anju Bhola. A sufficiency hearing is set for 6 April 2027, and the media release was issued by the Corporate Communications Unit on 28 September 2026.
