On Wednesday, a train collision in Spain left at least 68 people dead and more than a hundred injured. An Argentine citizen was among the deceased, while another compatriot remains missing, according to a statement from the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The accident occurred in the province of Toledo, south of Madrid, when an Iryo train carrying 147 passengers was struck by an AVE high‑speed train with 378 passengers. The impact caused several carriages to fall off a embankment, complicating rescue efforts and the search for survivors still inside the wreckage. The provisional casualty figures are 68 fatalities and over 100 injuries. Of the injured, 56 have been discharged from hospitals, while 53 remain hospitalized. Spanish Civil Guard officials said they would continue night‑time operations at the site to locate and rescue any remaining trapped passengers. The Argentine Embassy in Madrid and consulates across Spain are maintaining regular contact with the families of the victims and offering consular assistance to those in need. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the death of one Argentine citizen and noted that the whereabouts of the missing individual are still unknown amid ongoing search and rescue operations.
