The son of prominent trade unionist Michael Annisette was shot and killed on Friday afternoon when he and two other men were ambushed in Sangre Chiquito, Sangre Grande.
Police said the incident occurred around 2.55 p.m. Micah Annisette, 31, was a back-seat passenger in a Toyota Axio being driven along a roadway in the area. One man was seated in the front passenger seat at the time of the attack.
According to reports, gunmen ambushed the vehicle and opened fire, fatally wounding Micah Annisette. The condition of the other occupants was not immediately disclosed up to press time. Investigations are continuing.
Contacted last night via cellphone, Michael Annisette, secretary of the National Trade Union Centre, said he had accepted his son’s death. He described the loss as part of his ongoing lifelong journey.
Annisette said his son was a father of two and a wheelchair user.
Police are continuing enquiries into the killing and have not yet released details on a possible motive or suspects.
