Amnesty International condemns Pakistan order requiring Afghan medical students to return

Amnesty International has condemned a decision by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) that requires Afghan medical students currently studying in Pakistan to return to Afghanistan.

The organization described the PMDC order as discriminatory and arbitrary, arguing that it would disproportionately affect female Afghan students. Many of these students have already faced barriers to higher education in Afghanistan, where access to medical training is limited for women.

Amnesty International’s statement highlights concerns that the forced return could undermine the educational and professional prospects of Afghan medical students, particularly those who have sought refuge in Pakistan amid ongoing instability in their home country.
