Kaia Sealy ‘In Good Spirits,’ Says Alyssa Phillip After Visit

Activist Alyssa Phillip has shared a positive update on the wellbeing of Kaia Sealy, saying she is “in good spirits physically and mentally” despite the legal challenges she continues to face.

Activist Alyssa Phillip has shared a positive update on the wellbeing of Kaia Sealy, saying she is “in good spirits physically and mentally” despite the legal challenges she continues to face.

Speaking during an interview on the Talks with KG podcast, Phillip revealed that she had visited Sealy shortly before appearing on the programme.

“I just came from seeing her before I came here. She’s in good spirits physically and mentally. It made me very happy to see that. She put on size. She’s doing very well given the circumstances, and I’m really proud of her,” Phillip said.

Phillip explained that she has known Sealy for many years, noting that the two attended secondary school together from Form One through Form Five. She described Sealy as a quiet, reserved individual and said their friendship gave her a personal understanding of the woman now at the centre of a nationally debated court matter.

According to Phillip, seeing Sealy in good physical and mental health brought her comfort, particularly given the difficult circumstances surrounding the ongoing legal proceedings.

The comments represent one of the first public updates on Sealy’s condition since her arrest in connection with the police operation that resulted in the fatal shooting of Joshua Samaroo. The matter remains before the courts, and no findings have yet been made regarding the charges.

The case has sparked widespread national discussion about policing, accountability, protest rights and the justice system, leading to several public demonstrations and continued public interest.

Phillip’s remarks are expected to reassure supporters who have expressed concern for Sealy’s wellbeing, while the legal process continues.
