An eight‑year‑old girl was attacked by at least one wolf on Wednesday, 28 October, at the Johannismühle animal park in Baruth/Mark, 50 km south of Berlin. The child was inside an enclosure with two other children and a park employee when the incident occurred. She sustained serious injuries, reportedly to the head, and was air‑lifted by helicopter to a hospital. The other children and the employee were unharmed. Police in Brandenburg confirmed the attack, citing information from the tabloid Bild. “Une fillette de 8 ans a été attaquée ‘par au moins un loup dans un enclos pour animaux, alors qu’elle s’y trouvait en compagnie de deux autres enfants et d’une employée’ du parc,” the police said. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact circumstances. The park, which houses primarily European species such as brown bears, lynx, gray wolves and polar bears in large enclosures designed to resemble their natural habitats, closed its gates immediately after the incident. According to its website, the park will reopen on Monday. The attack follows a previous wolf bite in March 2024, when a woman was bitten in a shopping mall in Hamburg, marking the first such incident since the species was reintroduced to Germany nearly 30 years ago.
