AL: Kirveitä, tappouhkauksia ja luteita – Työntekijä avautuu Tampereen majoitusyksikön arjesta

Employees at Tastu, a temporary accommodation unit in Tampere, report working in an environment characterized by constant threats of violence, the presence of weapons, and poor sanitary conditions. According to a report by Aamulehti, staff members frequently face death threats and have encountered clients in possession of axes, knives, and air guns. The situation escalated in July when a staff member was physically assaulted by a client. While the facility currently employs a security guard around the clock, employees argue that a second guard is necessary to ensure safety. One employee described the working conditions to Aamulehti as living under the constant threat of violence. Staff members have expressed frustration with the management of the Pirkanmaa Wellbeing Services County (Pirha), alleging that leadership fails to understand the severity of the situation or provide adequate tools to address the problems. Employees suggest that the facility’s instability is exacerbated by cramped living conditions and the prevalence of the synthetic drug alpha-PVP. In addition to security concerns, the facility is struggling with a bedbug infestation. Employees described the presence of the insects on pillows and noted that the walls of some rooms are marked with fecal matter from the pests. Maria Päivänen, a director at Pirha, stated that the organization actively works to prevent violence and reviews all incident reports. She noted that despite instances of poor behavior, the service provider has a legal obligation to offer services to the clients.
