A tragic incident unfolded late Sunday night at New York’s LaGuardia Airport when an Air Canada Express plane, carrying 76 people, collided with a fire truck on the runway. The collision resulted in the tragic loss of both the captain and co-pilot, with an additional 41 passengers and crew, including two airport rescue officers, requiring hospitalization.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey confirmed the incident early Monday, stating that the airport would remain closed until at least 2 p.m. local time to allow for investigation and remediation efforts.
The aircraft, operated by Jazz Aviation LP on behalf of Air Canada Express, took off from Montreal with 72 passengers and four crew members. The plane crashed into a Port Authority fire truck shortly after touching down at LaGuardia, coming to a standstill about halfway down the runway. The reasons for this unfortunate incident remain unknown and are under investigation.
