AIICO sustains retirement income for 28,000 retirees

AIICO Insurance Plc announced that it paid N68.1 billion in claims and benefits during 2025. The company currently provides regular retirement income to more than 28,000 annuitants across Nigeria, a figure the insurer highlighted during its 2026 Annuitants Forum. The event, themed “Still More to Live: Embracing Life Beyond Retirement,” was held to discuss retirement security and the wellbeing of retirees. According to the company, it distributes approximately N2.1 billion in annuity benefits monthly, totaling roughly N25 billion over the preceding 12-month period. During the forum, AIICO’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Babatunde Fajemirokun, emphasized that the company views annuity payments as essential support for retirees’ daily needs, including housing, healthcare, and family obligations. He encouraged attendees to view retirement as a new phase of life, urging them to prioritize their health and maintain social connections. Gbenga Ilori, the Executive Director of the Retail Business Division, stated that the company aims to act as a long-term partner to its clients rather than merely a service provider. He noted that the forum serves as a platform for direct engagement, allowing the company to receive feedback and improve its service delivery. Attendees at the event shared their experiences regarding the insurer’s performance. Josephine Igbinedion, a retiree of the Nigerian Postal Authority, commended the company for its prompt payment schedule and responsiveness to customer inquiries. Another attendee, Dimeji Shoji, noted that the forum provided clarity on concerns regarding the impact of inflation on retirement income. The Annuitants Forum is part of AIICO’s broader strategy to maintain engagement with its customers beyond standard financial transactions, focusing on long-term support for retirees throughout their post-employment years.
