After 17 years of dormancy, Isiolo’s Sh1 billion abattoir has finally roared to life. Dozens of cattle, goats, and camels were slaughtered at the facility this week to test its systems, marking a critical milestone for the long-awaited project.
The test slaughter assessed the abattoir’s efficiency and readiness for full operations, raising hopes that it will soon serve the region’s livestock industry. The facility, once completed, is expected to boost local exports and create jobs.
Isiolo County officials have not yet announced an official opening date, but the successful test signals that the project is finally moving forward after years of delays. The Sh1bn investment could transform Isiolo into a livestock hub.
