After 14 months, Orioles reinstate All-Star RHP Felix Bautista

The Baltimore Orioles reinstated All-Star closer Felix Bautista from the 60-day injured list on Saturday, marking his return to the roster more than a year after undergoing shoulder surgery. The 31-year-old right-hander last appeared in a major league game on July 20 of last season.

Bautista underwent surgery on August 19 to repair his right labrum and rotator cuff. This followed a 2023 season in which he sustained an injury to his right ulnar collateral ligament, requiring Tommy John surgery that sidelined him for the entire 2024 campaign. Prior to his injuries, Bautista established himself as a dominant closer, recording a 1.48 ERA and 33 saves during his 2023 All-Star season.

In a corresponding roster move, the Orioles optioned left-handed pitcher Cade Povich to Triple-A Norfolk. Povich had started for the team in a 6-5, 10-inning loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.

The team also announced updates regarding other players. Orioles President of Baseball Operations Mike Elias confirmed that closer Ryan Helsley, who has been on the injured list since July 19 due to right elbow discomfort, will be shut down for the remainder of the 2026 season. Additionally, outfielder Christian Franklin was reinstated from the 10-day injured list following left hand inflammation, while outfielder Heston Kjerstad was optioned to Triple-A Norfolk. Outfielder Tyler O’Neill was transferred to the 60-day injured list due to right shoulder inflammation.
