Abinader hablará con Bukele este lunes y refuerza la frontera sur ante la crisis haitiana

President Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic announced that he will hold a meeting with Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele on Monday to discuss the security crisis affecting Haiti. During a press briefing on Sunday, Abinader confirmed that the Dominican government has deployed two additional battalions, heavy equipment, and artillery to the southern border in order to strengthen national security. He said the new forces are part of an expanded security structure already operating in the area. “We have over‑reinforced the southern border,” the president stated, adding that the measures are intended to ensure the safety of the Dominican Republic. Abinader also explained that he maintains continuous contact with Bukele and with representatives of the gang‑fighting task force to monitor actions that could have repercussions for the Dominican Republic. He reported holding meetings with the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs to address national security concerns and the situation in Haiti. The president delivered these remarks after leading a social inclusion event at the Griselis Martínez school in the Pekín neighborhood of Santiago’s southern zone.
