Doctor critically injured in ambush; off-duty officer kills one gunman

A doctor is in critical condition following a shooting incident that occurred early this morning. Dr. Dorothy Williams-Chandler was ambushed outside her home in Champs Fleurs after returning from a charity event. Police report that at around midnight, as she was driving her Toyota Rav 4, a Nissan AD Wagon blocked her path and two men emerged, opening fire on her vehicle, hitting her six times.

An off-duty prison officer, who was driving behind her, witnessed the attack and intervened. He shouted at the gunmen and drew his licensed firearm, managing to shoot one suspect, later identified as Adam Wheeler from Belmont. The second gunman fled the scene, while Wheeler fell to the ground and was later pronounced dead. Dr. Williams-Chandler’s husband rushed her to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where she remains in critical condition. The St. Joseph police are investigating the incident and have secured the scene for further examination, as Wheeler’s body was transferred to a mortuary in Champs Fleurs.
