A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday night when 19-year-old Kavish Veda Persad lost his life in a car crash on the Beetham Highway. Reports indicate that Persad, driving a white Hyundai Ioniq, attempted to overtake another vehicle but collided with it, leading to his car crashing into a water main and ultimately landing in a river. This incident marked the fourth road fatality of the day, following earlier accidents that claimed the lives of Jamie Morton, who was involved in a collision with a maxi-taxi, and PTSC bus driver Munsaf Khan along with passenger Roxanne Phillip, who were killed when their bus was hit by a truck. Just a day prior to the accident, Persad’s father had publicly celebrated his son’s academic achievements on Facebook, highlighting his success in the Upper Six Cape exams. The series of road accidents raises concerns about safety on the roads, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and caution among drivers.
