Concerns Rise Over Book Grant Scheme as School Term Approaches

Former Education Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly has raised concerns regarding the status of the book-grant scheme as the new school term approaches. With just three weeks until schools reopen, she noted that parents are anxious due to a lack of updates on the processing of applications submitted under the previous administration. Gadsby-Dolly emphasized the importance of the grants, particularly as many families are facing job losses and rely on this financial assistance for educational resources. Additionally, she expressed disappointment over the discontinuation of the Vacation Remedial Programme, which she had implemented to support low-achieving students transitioning from primary to secondary school. This program was halted during the recent July-August vacation period following the change in government after the April 28 elections.
