A joint operation at the Buccoo Reef Marine Park in the Caribbean revealed widespread violations last Friday. The Division of Food Security, Natural Resources, the Environment and Sustainable Development led the effort, inspecting several boats and resulting in multiple fines for overcrowding, suspensions for lack of safety equipment, and impounding of illegally operating jet skis. Enforcement teams also addressed unlicensed vendors and non-compliant food operations, along with seizing narcotics and alcohol. Division Secretary Nathisha Charles-Pantin emphasized the importance of this initiative, describing the Buccoo Reef as a national treasure and stating that illegal exploitation will not be tolerated. The Division expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their cooperation and reiterated their commitment to preserving Tobago’s natural heritage for future generations.
