Brilliant at 12! Woodland Girl Passes CSEC English Exam
Woodland, La Romaine – At just 12 years old, Angelina Deunat has accomplished what many students achieve in their mid-teens: she successfully sat the CSEC English examination and passed with flying colours.
Her father, Dr. Emmanuel Deunat, a secondary school teacher who holds a PhD in Education, could not contain his pride when sharing the news. “I am very proud of her. We are very happy as to what she has done. She has been home-schooled, and we are going to continue along this path. Probably one subject per year, maybe two. She’s learning really well online, and it has worked for her,” he said.
Dr. Deunat, who specializes in English, emphasized the importance of the subject as a foundation for both academic and professional success. “My motivation for every child in Trinidad and Tobago is to say that you can do it. Every child should have English. Start early, go at it, and they can achieve. It is my vision that every child in Trinidad and Tobago should have English, just like Angelina did.”
Angelina, beaming with pride, described her feelings as “elated.” She also offered advice to parents: “If you find your child is not performing, try to take an interest and look at their style of learning. For me, online and one-on-one worked very well. Parents should invest in their children’s education. It’s an investment in their lives and an investment in the country.”
Her success story is already inspiring discussions on the role of homeschooling, early preparation, and the value of tailored learning approaches in helping students reach their potential.
