Errol Fabien recently shared his thoughts on the government’s decision to cancel the Independence Day parade. Fabien has never fully embraced the concept of the parade, particularly its military display, which he views as a holdover from the country’s colonial past. While he has no issue with the idea of a parade celebrating independence, he would prefer a celebration that truly represents the country’s identity. He suggests that such a parade should include the showcasing of local schools and manufacturers, alongside floats depicting products that the country produces and contributes to the world. Fabien is also keen to see and hear more traditional cultural elements such as Pan and Tassa. He feels that the current focus on military elements like bikes, guns, and uniforms does not truly represent the nation’s identity and should be reconsidered.
