Imbert Slams UNC’s ‘Fraudulent’ Election Promises

Colm Imbert, while addressing a PNM meeting, criticized the UNC’s election promises to public servants and the general public. Imbert mockingly questioned how the party could promise extravagant things like ‘the moon, the sun, the stars, and milk and honey’. The UNC had allegedly pledged a 10% salary increase for public servants, a claim that Imbert vehemently disputes, stating that the PNM’s offer was an initial 4%, later negotiating towards 5% and 6%. The UNC is accused of misrepresenting these numbers by adding them together to reach the 10% figure. Imbert termed this as ‘madness’ and economic fraud, arguing that there’s no realistic source for such an additional $10 billion. Drawing parallels, he mentioned similar false promises made in Jamaica, painting the UNC as irresponsible, reckless, and dishonest, thriving on empty populist promises to win votes. This sharply contrasts with the PNM’s ‘realistic, step-by-step’ negotiation approach with unions.
