In Penal early Wednesday morning, a taxi driver was shot during a robbery, but rapid response from security personnel led to the prompt arrest of two Venezuelan nationals. The incident occurred around 6 a.m., when the 55-year-old driver was operating his silver Nissan Tiida. Two men boarded the taxi on Clarke Road near a pond and, as they neared the Heritage compound, one suspect pressed a gun to the driver’s head and ordered him to relax. The driver complied and stopped the vehicle, but upon attempting to exit, he was grabbed by the armed assailant. A struggle ensued, resulting in the driver being shot in the right thigh. Despite his injury, the driver managed to run toward the Heritage compound, where he alerted two security officers. The officers quickly pursued the suspects in their vehicle and apprehended them, recovering a loaded Smith & Wesson revolver. The suspects were handed over to the police, and the injured driver received medical treatment before being discharged. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
