A technician employed to service the air conditioning at the Arima Police Station was caught stealing a Canon camera valued at $4,000. The incident occurred when 38-year-old Dexter Renne, contracted through a service provider, took the camera from a locked server room during his maintenance work.
On July 22, 2025, a police officer had placed two Canon EOS Rebel T7 cameras in the server room, only to find one missing upon return on August 7. Security footage revealed Renne stealing the camera while on duty.
Renne returned for further maintenance two days later, where he was apprehended by police. He pleaded guilty to the theft and was fined $10,000, with an additional $4,000 in compensation to the State. The case highlights an unusual theft solved by the very surveillance system intended to ensure security at the police station.
