In a tragic incident that unfolded on Rochard Road in Penal, 47-year-old Barrackpore labourer Habib John has been hailed a hero for his selfless act of bravery. While escorting 68-year-old pensioner Ann Marie Codrington-Mitchell home after a visit to a relative, John pushed her out of harm’s way as a van careened towards them. The accident occurred around 7:10 pm when a white Kia K2700 struck both of them. John was tragically found motionless at the scene, while Codrington-Mitchell was rushed to San Fernando General Hospital, where she is currently in stable condition with multiple injuries including three broken ribs and a broken arm. Residents expressed their sadness, noting this was the second fatal accident at this location in recent times. Authorities have confirmed that the driver of the van, a 33-year-old Penal man, was involved in the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
