Controversy Erupts Over Stolen SUV Linked to Police Shooting Incident

A Toyota Raize SUV rented by a policewoman has become the focal point of a significant controversy after being stolen twice. The first theft occurred on August 2, 2025, in Sangre Grande, when the woman police constable (WPC) reported the vehicle missing. However, the SUV was previously recovered the day before, having been abandoned in Wallerfield, a location often linked to criminal activities.

Initially thought to belong to the WPC, it was confirmed that she had rented it from a central rental company. After being impounded due to damage, the SUV was taken to the Arima Police Station for safekeeping. Just hours later, it was stolen again, allegedly by someone with access to the vehicle’s key. Alarmingly, the SUV was not logged into the station’s Charge Room, leading to confusion among officers on duty, who were unaware of its presence.

The vehicle was later seen with blue swivel lights during the Emancipation weekend, driven recklessly in Arima. It reappeared on August 6, 2025, prompting a police chase that ended with a suspect abandoning the vehicle and fleeing into the bushes. In the incident, a confrontation occurred, resulting in the police shooting the driver, identified as Isaiah Taylor from Sangre Grande.

In response to this series of events, the Professional Standards Bureau (PSB) initiated an investigation into the theft, focusing on potential misconduct and security failures at the police station. ASP Jones has been assigned to oversee an internal inquiry, with investigators reviewing CCTV footage and interviewing officers on duty during the incident. The case raises serious concerns regarding police procedures, accountability, and the integrity of law enforcement during a declared State of Emergency, when security alerts were heightened due to a potential assassination plot.
