Inmate Uses TV to Game Outside Prison Walls

Defence Minister Wayne Sturges has revealed an inmate at the Maximum Security Prison was reportedly using a 65-inch television to communicate with the outside world via popular online video games. The television, discovered in the prisoner’s cell in February, was not in the communal area as previously suggested, but was in the personal space of the inmate. Sturge indicated the inmate was getting Internet access from within the prison, using equipment that was not previously utilized due to intelligence gathering efforts. The Minister expressed concerns about the potential harm done by allowing such communication, despite the intelligence benefits. The matter of other inmates having personal televisions in their cells was deferred to acting Prisons Commissioner Carlos Corrapse and Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander. Sturge also highlighted the finding of recently discovered weapons in the prison, identifying it as a serious security risk.
