A High Court Judge has given the Trinidad & Tobago Police Service (TTPS) until 4 pm today to either charge or release a 21-year-old woman arrested in connection with the kidnapping of Valsayn resident, Jankie Satie Karim. The directive came in response to a habeas corpus writ filed by the woman’s legal team, led by Keron Ramkhalwhan. The lawyers argued the continued detention was unlawful, arbitrary, and unreasonable. They also suggested the woman could be released and rearrested if investigators later found sufficient evidence to charge her. TTPS was given additional time to explain their investigation’s delays. The woman’s case is one of many related to Karim’s kidnapping, which has seen five other suspects arrested. If the provided deadline is not met, the judge ruled that the woman’s detention would be unjustified, leading to her immediate release.
