On July 20, 2025, Woodbrook, Port of Spain came alive with vibrant colors and spirited voices as over 200 LGBTQ+ individuals and allies took to the streets for the TT Pride Parade. The atmosphere was a captivating blend of celebration and protest, echoing the heartbeat of a community united in resilience and the demand for equality. With police escorts ensuring safety, the event showcased a notable shift in recognition and visibility for the LGBTQ+ community in Trinidad and Tobago.
Participants adorned in rainbow flags danced to the rhythm of steelpan music, embodying the festive Carnival spirit that is synonymous with the nation. Yet, amidst the joyous revelry, the underlying message was clear: a call for equal rights in a country where same-sex acts remain criminalized.
One participant powerfully stated, “We’re not asking for special rights—we’re asking for human rights.” This sentiment resonated throughout the crowd, echoing the collective hope for a future where love is no longer shadowed by legal constraints.
