The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has ramped up its efforts during the ongoing State of Emergency (SOE), executing 84 targeted operations across the nation within a 24-hour period. This intensified crackdown resulted in the arrest of 23 individuals, the recovery of two firearms, and the seizure of a substantial amount of ammunition.
According to TTPS, these operations spanned all 12 policing divisions and involved specialized units focusing on areas known for criminal activity, high-priority offenders, and major thoroughfares. The Southern Division was particularly active, reporting 24 arrests alongside 151 traffic-related interventions.
Key outcomes from these operations included: 507 searches conducted, 45 traffic operations, and 36 high-priority offenders targeted. Additionally, 161 traffic offenses were detected, and law enforcement recovered one rifle and one pistol, along with 86 rounds of assorted ammunition. Other items confiscated during the operations included a ski mask and camouflage clothing.
The Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) contributed significantly to the firearm seizures, underscoring the collaborative effort in enhancing public safety.
The TTPS reiterated its commitment to proactive policing, aiming to address illegal firearms, remove repeat offenders from the streets, and enhance road safety. They have called for ongoing public cooperation to help restore a sense of security across communities in Trinidad and Tobago.
