On July 18, a tragic head-on collision occurred on the Southern Main Road in Caroni, resulting in the death of Hymatie Ali, 60, who was a passenger in a Mitsubishi Lancer. Her husband, PC Inshan Ali, a police officer, and their son, Saeel Ali, sustained critical injuries and were rushed to Mt Hope Hospital. The incident took place on a bridge leading to Caroni Bridge around 8:45 PM when a black SUV collided with their vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported that PC Inshan was likely asleep in the back seat during the accident.
In the aftermath, friends, neighbors, and fellow officers mobilized to donate blood for potential emergency surgeries for the injured. PC Inshan, known for his community involvement and dedication as a police officer, was on duty earlier that day. The collision caused significant traffic disruptions along the Southern Main Road for hours, drawing a large emergency response.
The driver of the SUV fled the scene but was later located at a medical center and brought to St Joseph Police Station for questioning before being released. Reports indicate that he is the son-in-law of a plaza owner in Chaguanas and was seen at Piarco Airport the following day, attempting to leave the country. Police have flagged his name to prevent his departure while investigations continue into the incident.
