Firearms Dealers Seek Reform in Trinidad and Tobago Licensing System

Firearms dealers and range operators in Trinidad and Tobago are advocating for urgent reforms to the nation’s firearm licensing system. They express concerns that prolonged delays, outdated procedures, and a lack of transparency are jeopardizing public safety. In response to these issues, the group is in the process of officially establishing themselves as the Trinidad and Tobago Firearms Dealers and Range Operators Association. They have submitted a comprehensive reform proposal to the government, which they hope will address the systemic problems they have identified. This initiative was discussed during a meeting with Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander on July 16, where they presented a recommendation paper outlining a ten-step, technology-driven approach intended to overhaul what they label a “broken and biased” system. The proposed reforms aim to streamline the licensing process, enhance transparency, and ultimately ensure a safer environment for the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago.
