Major Overhaul in Demerit Points System Leaves Key Offences Intact

In a significant shift to road traffic regulations, Minister Eli Zakour announced the removal of demerit points from 63 of the 69 current road traffic violations. This change aims to streamline the demerit point system and reduce penalties for minor infractions. However, the minister emphasized that six critical criminal offences will remain subject to demerit points, ensuring that serious violations are still met with appropriate consequences. Importantly, the number of demerit points that can lead to a license suspension will not change, maintaining the integrity of the system for more serious offences.
